Oliver Bastable may have grown up in Wales, but he’s not Welsh, and he’s certainly made Brisbane home. With a calm, confident presence and a sharp analytical mind, Ollie joined Providior as Finance Manager in mid-2025, bringing with him a wealth of experience in funds management and infrastructure investment.
His journey to Australia began when he met Carlie from Gympie during her working holiday in the UK. When she returned to Queensland, Ollie followed, planning a working holiday of his own.

“When I arrived in Brisbane, it became immediately apparent that there weren’t many funds management firms here, which is the space I’d been working in and was most interested in. There were lots of roles in banking and finance, but mostly in commercial banks.”
Ollie didn’t get far down the list of funds management firms before one spotted his potential and offered him a role. So impressed were they that they wrote to the Immigration Department to extend his employment beyond the standard six-month limit.
With a partner visa secured and roots being laid in Brisbane, Ollie joined QIC’s unlisted infrastructure team—an ideal fit that allowed him to dive deep into the complexities of managing and reporting across a network of 50+ offshore and onshore entities.
Ollie credits mentors at QIC and back in the UK for helping shape his career. While relocating for love can be challenging, he’s embraced life in Australia.
“When I lived in London, most of my family were only 3–4 hours away by train, but I didn’t see them that often. Now, they’re 22 hours away, and I see them every year just about.”
After five years at QIC, Ollie sought a role where he could have broader strategic impact. He was drawn to Providior’s lean, high-performance culture and its commitment to hiring well.
“I’ve often felt that successful, lean firms are home to high-caliber professionals. They have to be—there isn’t a corporate population to support them if they aren’t high performers. I think that’s true of Providior and many of our clients.”
Ollie has a strong affinity for data interpretation and is comfortable with the pace of technological change. He’s already made a significant impact at Providior, helping reduce manual processes and improve how data is managed and used.
“We’re at the beginning of a journey to build and deploy easy-to-use, informative reporting and submission portals for our clients. This will help us grow without expanding our team or overheads, and allow our fantastic team to focus on more engaging work.”
Outside of work, Ollie is a dedicated gym-goer and former rugby player. With a young family now, rugby is on pause—but not forever.
“I was born in London, but we relocated to a regional town in Wales when I was a kid. That’s when I started playing rugby. I’ve always enjoyed the game, and once I complete my CPA next year, I’m definitely keen to start playing again.”
Ollie is a great fit for Providior, and we’re thrilled to have him on board. Whether you meet him directly or benefit from the systems he’s helping to build, his work is shaping the way we deliver smarter financial services to the personal injury legal sector.
